ALTHOUGH ONE EMPLOYER FOR WHICH I WORKED had a policy that employees were not allowed to bring their cell phones on property; I do believe that texting can be and is a method of providing better service. Ear plugs and a lapel mic can be annoying, especially if someone is trying to communicate with another employee at the same time a member or guest is asking a question. Regarding two way radios, they can be cumbersome and noisey. However, a simple quiet beep or vibrate from a cell phone provides a message alert which is stored until erased and works 24/7. Many locker room managers I have met provide their cell phone # to the members and guests, which provides many additional service advantages because of texting.
