WHEN A MEMBER OR GUEST approaches an employee he or she should stand when spoken to. It is simply a matter of being polite and showing respect. Common courtesy says put the cell phone down, stop working on the computer, look up from the newspaper or magazine and quit eating and/or drinking (which should not be done in front of the members and guests anyway).
MY CLASSMATES AND I were taught in grammar school to stand whenever another teacher or visitor entered our room and we did not sit down until given permission. The same for when the person left the room.
THIS SIMPLE ACT of standing when spoken to shows professionalism on the job, a caring attitude and a well trained staff.
